After ten years working as a make-up artist for film and television, Fliff started to explore ceramics at the City Lit in London in 1992. She has been making ceramics full-time in her studio for the last 16 years. She make work to commission and sells in shops, galleries, and at craft and design fairs in London and throughout the UK.
Her work is mostly thrown and hand-rolled domestic ware. She uses white earthenware clay, an opaque vellum or transparent glaze over coloured slips and underglazes. Each piece is unique, whether in form or detail.
Her work uses subtle shades and intricate details of vintage fabrics and the textures of old lace as well as ‘found objects’ from the banks of the Thames. She applies these sources of inspiration to her work as embossed, stamped or inlaid detail.
