Tony White is a painter and print-maker based in Newport, Essex, UK
His work encompasses his interests and influences in art, and as a biologist and musician. White likes to use pure colour, shapes and line in his paintings and prints and also to create space, depth and movement along with a sculptural sense.Whites work ranges from semi-figurative and abstract forms as well as architectural and landscape elements. Working in a range of paint media from watercolour, acrylic and oil, and in pastel. Using a range of print techniques from linocut, wood-block, screen print and solar plate as well as mixed techniques and collage.
He is currently exploring layered watercolour paintings as well as printing the natural grain from pieces of wood or stone and constructing images with the addition of other printed elements , including 3-D work, often based on the memories or sensations of travel or of music. Whites work often also comes back to images which feature celestial elements.
White has staged successful solo exhibitions, has had work commissioned for, and featured on, book and magazine covers, corporate brochures, exhibition stands and communication materials. His work has been selected in open competitions, is in private collections in the UK, Europe, U.S.A., Canada and Australia and in the collection of the Paper and Watermark Museum, Fabriano, Italy. He was awarded the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS) Presidents Award in the Society of East Anglian Watercolourists (SEAW) selected exhibition in 2012 and was elected Chairman of SEAW in 2013.
He holds a certificate in Advanced Printmaking Techniques from the Curwen Print Study Centre and am a Trustee of the Fry Art Gallery in Saffron Walden, Essex
He is also a published scientist/microbiologist and a jazz/blues guitarist.
