Towards the end of her career, Russian artist Lyubov Popova was eager to utilise her artistic skills to participate in the construction of the new Communist environment. She used her skills to design everyday objects for mass production, such as posters, textile designs and book covers. In 1917 she created this embroidery design for Verbovka Village Folk Centre, an artisan cooperative based in the village of Verbovka near Kyiv, Ukraine. The centre was established by avant-garde artists Natalia Davidova and Nina Genke-Meller.
